Dream Feeding

I kept reading about this thing called a "dream feed" - it seems to be something that works when you're trying to encourage babies to sleep through the night. A lot of triplet moms swear by it, so we thought we'd give it a shot! We normally feed the kids at 7pm, give them a bath, then put them to bed, usually by 8pm. They eat again at 11pm and again at 3am. They are like clockwork - someone always wakes up within 10 minutes of the 3am feeding time.

The theory is that at the 11pm feed, you get them out of bed without waking them and give them a full bottle in their sleep. Sounds crazy, but it actually worked for the girls! They basically slept the entire time they ate. Tyler...well, he has his own ideas of how to go about things, so he was wide awake! So back to bed we put them, and the girls never woke up! I was amazed! I just knew I was going to get some good sleep - finally! WRONG. They woke up at 1:30am screaming...all of them...loudly...really loudly...and mad...really mad...

I think this is how the conversation in the nursery transpired:

HALEY: Hey Elli - you awake?

ELLI: I am now.

TYLER: Me too, me too!!

HALEY: I'm hungry.

ELLI: Now that you mention it...

TYLER: Me too, me too!!

HALEY: Why haven't they fed us yet? I swear it's like 1:00am already!

ELLI: Good point - I think they forgot to feed us at 11:00. Last thing I remember is the bath at 8:00. What do you think, Tyler?

TYLER: I hate baths

HALEY: So do you think they're trying to pull one over on us?

ELLI: Hmmm...maybe. I really don't remember eating after our bath.

TYLER: I really hate baths

HALEY: Seriously, I think they forgot to feed us!!

ELLI: That is SO not cool!!!

TYLER: MOM, MOM, MOM, MOM, MOM, MOM, MOM, MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You forgot to feed Elli and Haley!!!

ELLI: You're not hungry, Tyler?

TYLER: Nope. I ate at 11:00. Did I mention that I hate baths?

ELLI & HALEY: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Needless to say, the "dream feed" was a total nightmare! I'm starting to realize that my life is no longer in my control. Bummer.

You should be a writer! That's hilarious! The Lippens have the best blog ever...you guys rock!! I needed a laugh this morning. By the way, did the dream feeding not mention that you use beer instead of formula? Missed that one, huh... :)

Anything that sounds that easy with kids, NEVER works! Anything's worth a try to get them to sleep through the night! Brady (almost 3) was finally sleeping through the night and then we potty trained him and now he has to wake up in the middle of the night to pee! Ugh! The kids are adorable!!!
